Biography:
My name is Lola Ramona. My name was given to me by my mentor, the burlesque performer World Famous BOB. I have been a burlesque performer, an artist's model, and a circus showgirl, and I have recorded what I thought about it all in my drawings.
My drawings are based on very personal feelings and experiences and relationships that I have had. I do not care for irony or cynicism- I have been both naked and nude in my life and I understand that naked is more powerful. My life has been (and continues to be) a true adventure and my drawings reflect that: they are at once fantastic and familiar.
Most of my drawings are of animals that represent myself and my experiences tied in with my favorite stories and myths. I have found that an animal is more recognizable as an emotional signifier, and can universally describe a moment in both raw feeling and empathy: emotional taxidermy, I call it. Plus, I really enjoy drawing animals. I like to dress them up as I dress up, and place them in awkward and uncomfortable scenarios, with equal successes and failures.
For me these creatures represent the burlesque of living. They are mine, and unique to me, but they belong to everybody. They are banal and beautiful, ridiculous and honest, just like me.
